Swindon Town striker Leon Clarke has joined Chesterfield on a three-month loan deal.

The 26-year-old has not played for the Robins since his fracas with manager Paolo di Canio following their Carling Cup defeat by Southampton.

After the incident Di Canio insisted Clarke, who is three weeks into his two-year contract at Swindon, would "never play" for the club again.

He is expected to be in the Spireites squad to face Bournemouth on Saturday.

Chairman Jeremy Wray told the club website: "Both manager and player are keen to put the matter behind them and move on and it is felt that this move is in the best interests of all parties.

"It goes without saying that the club remains fully confident in Leon's footballing ability - he remains a Swindon player although we obviously wish him every success in his time at Chesterfield."
