Torquay United centre-back Mark Ellis says he wants to establish himself in the Gulls defence.

Ellis, 23, has struggled to dislodge Brian Saah and Chris Robertson in the middle of defence this season.

But Ellis has started the last two matches and shone as at Plainmoor on Tuesday.

"There's competition with Robbo and Saahsy. Obviously Robbo can slot in at right-back, but I want to make the position my own," he told BBC Devon.

"I'm happy here and I just want to play games and hopefully I can get better and better," he added.

Kingsbridge-born Ellis, who joined the Gulls permanently after being released from Bolton in 2008, has made 101 appearances for Torquay.

But he was quick to praise the entire squad after their biggest victory of the season so far.

"You've got to give credit to everybody else as well because you can only play as well as those around you and I thought the lads were class."
