Carlisle United have signed Bristol City defender Christian Ribeiro on loan until the beginning of 2012.

The Wales international, 21, has not figured for the Robins this season and comes into the Cumbrians squad as cover for the injured Frank Simek.

"He wants to show that he's ready to go, he's hungry, and we think he'll fit in," Carlisle boss Greg Abbott told the club website.

"We know all about Christian and we think he'll be a good one for us."

Abbott added: "We need cover in that area with James Tavernier going back to Newcastle and with Frank working his way back to full fitness."

Ribeiro made his Wales debut in a friendly against Croatia in May 2010, and featured for his country in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

His first-team opportunities at Ashton Gate have been limited by a cruciate ligament injury he suffered during the 2008-09 season.Stockport sign defender Edwards

Since joining the club as a trainee the Neath-born player has made 17 appearances, and had a loan spell at Colchester in 2009-10.

Meanwhile, Bristol City have allowed defender Joe Edwards to extend his loan spell at Stockport until 2 January.

The 21-year-old has made six appearances for the Hatters since his September switch.

City boss Derek McInnes told his new club's website: "Joe's already done well at Stockport and this further opportunity will be good for him."
