Ryman Premier Division side Aveley have named former West Ham and Scunthorpe midfielder Lee Hodges as their new manager.

He succeeds Carl Griffiths, who was sacked earlier this month, after the club's poor start to the season.

Hodges, 33, is taking on his first managerial role.

Aveley secretary Craig Johnson said: "The club has taken its time in reaching the appointment and are confident Lee will succeed."

Hodges has been quick to sign ex-Colchester midfielder Joe Keith from neighbours East Thurrock United.

Aveley are 18th in the Ryman Premier Division, with just two wins from their opening 16 matches.
