Mike Davies leaves The New Saints role

Mike Davies has resigned as director of football after just 18 months in charge at Welsh Premier side The New Saints.

TNS won the 2010 League Cup and finished second to Bangor City in last season's Welsh Premier since replacing Andy Cale in April 2010.

Davies insists his decision is not due to recent results where the former leaders dropped to third in the league after winning just one point from nine.

"I think I can go with my head held high," Davies said.

Departing Davies denies rift with TNS owner

TNS have suffered back-to-back defeats Bangor and Afan Lido and trail leaders Bangor by just two points.

Although Davies did not guide the five-times league champions to a title, he did lead TNS to their first victories in the Champions League and Europa Cup.

Saints beat Irish side Bohemians in the 2010 Champions League qualifying round to set up a glamour tie with Belgian giants Anderlecht.

And Davies inspired TNS to a Europa Cup win over Cliftonville of Northern Ireland in the 2011 qualifying round.

"I have led the club to runners-up spot in the Welsh Premier, the first-ever European victories against Bohemians and Cliftonville, and two League Cups," Davies told the official Welsh Premier website.
