Plymouth Argyle's on loan defender Ben Gibson has been recalled by the parent club Middlesbrough.

Gibson, 18, revealed on his Twitter account that he will be going back to the Riverside Stadium after making 16 appearances for Argyle.

"I have been recalled back to Middlesbrough," Gibson tweeted.

"Had a great time, learnt a lot and made friends I will keep forever, I thank everybody who made it such a ball, love you all," he added.

Gibson signed an extension to his loan earlier this month which would have kept him at Home Park until 29 January.

But he was left out of the Argyle squad following the loan signings of Darren Purse, Nick Chadwick and Ashley Hemmings.

The Pilgrims also have Blackpool duo Paul Bignot and Craig Sutherland on loan and are only allowed a maximum of five loanees in a match-day squad.
