Steinsson admits Bolton are 'running out of time' to turn their season around

Bolton defender Gretar Steinsson says his team have been "childish and stupid" this season as they have slid into a relegation battle.

Wanderers are second from bottom in the Premier League going into the Christmas period fixtures.

Steinsson told BBC Manchester: "We have just been childish and stupid to let ourselves slip into this.

"Everyone needs to take a look at themselves and realise how we have been going about things isn't good enough."

Tuesday night's 2-1 win at Blackburn ended a run of five consecutive Premier League defeats, but Bolton are three points behind 17th-placed Wolves.

Owen Coyle's side face home games against Newcastle on Boxing Day then Wolves on New Year's Eve.

Icelandic defender Steinsson admits that times are difficult, saying: "When it's not really happening, maybe the confidence drops a little bit and we're not quite finding the right things. It gets tough.

"It's a tough league and it's a small margin between winning and losing. We have been on the other side of it.

"We just need to pick ourselves up because we are running out of time to get ourselves out of this.

"There are many games coming up fast now - and against teams who are around us and need the win and the points. Every game is going to be important.

"We can play some really good football when we want to. We just need to get these goals, defend as a team and get the results, just like we did last year and the year before."
