Luton Town boss Gary Brabin insists he will maintain his interest in signing Gateshead striker Jon Shaw.

The Hatters have so far been rebuffed in their approaches for the 28-year-old, who has scored 21 goals in 28 games this season.

But Brabin will persist in trying to bring the former Burton forward to Kenilworth Road.

"It needs to have been more than just interest to have dragged on this long," he told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"He's a player we like and admire and it's no secret we've been interested in him.

"We're always wanting to improve the squad and if there's a certain type of player who scores goals and fits our way of playing then we're interested.

"But I don't think it's fair to keep dragging it across the water. He's Gateshead's player and we've got to respect their decision."

Shaw joined the Tynesiders in the summer of 2010 from Mansfield and scored 17 goals in his debut season.

He started the current Blue Square Bet Premier campaign in style, scoring 11 goals in as many games and now leads the division's scoring charts with 20 strikes in the league.
