Southend United defender Mark Phillips has set his sights on scoring 10 goals this campaign.

The centre-back, who had only scored twice in his career before this season, has netted eight so far.

Phillips, 29, has hit the target in the recent wins over AFC Wimbledon and Port Vale as the Shrimpers have got their promotion bid back on track.

He told BBC Essex: "Early doors I set myself an aim for double figures and I feel it's realistic."

The former Millwall and Brentford man is confident the second-placed Blues can gain promotion from League Two.

They have recovered from a six-game winless streak to pick up seven points from their last three matches.

He added: "It's all about us, we need to win these games. We know what we've got to do week in, week out.

"When we get to that magic 80 points, we'll hopefully be there."
