Rotherham 0-1 Port Vale
Marc Richards's penalty was enough to give Port Vale victory over Rotherham.
The home side started confidently with the Millers' top scorer Lewis Grabban firing narrowly wide.
The visitors also looked dangerous in attack with Robert Taylor going close and Adam Yates forcing a smart save from Rhys Taylor.
The vital breakthrough came when Dale Tonge brought down Doug Loft in the area, with Richards calmy dispatching the penalty to secure the win.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Rotherham United manager Andy Scott tells BBC Radio Sheffield:
"Clearly I'm very upset and disappointed. We had the opportunity to have a go at this Port Vale team and we passed up that opportunity really.
"We got in good areas but we didn't put enough balls in the box, we tried to be too clever.
"It was never going to be a classic with the wind, but certainly when you've got the wind you want to put the ball in the box and make the defenders make mistakes and cause them problems."
Port Vale manager Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke:
"It was a fantastic performance by all of the lads. We got it spot on in terms of the way we wanted play with the conditions.
"We not only defended well but played some good football as well.
"We needed a result to give ourselves a boost and I'm sure that result will lift everybody in and around the place."
