Torquay United boss Martin Ling struggles to decide on striker

Torquay United manager Martin Ling says he faces a dilemma of whether to start Taiwo Atieno or Rene Howe up front against Morecambe on Saturday.

Howe returns from a four-match suspension, but in that time Atieno has impressed as the Gulls have won three and drawn one.

"That is the biggest decision for this season so far," Ling told BBC Devon.

Howe is Torquay's top scorer with nine goals since joining in the summer, while Atieno has scored two.

"I remember when Rene got sent off at Accrington we were poor on the day and everyone said 'we've got four games without Rene Howe, how is it going to be?'" Ling said.

"'Have we got players within the building to fill his boots?' Tai stepped up to the plate and we picked up 10 points from 12."

Earlier in the season Ling called on Atieno to prove to him that he should be worthy of a starting place after the Kenya international struggled in the opening part of the season.

"The jury was out at that stage but over the last four games he's proved to me that he can do a job at this football club which is pleasing," the Gulls manager added.
