Crewe captain Dave Artell has admitted he and Adam Dugdale let the team down after they were sent-off at Barnet.

The skipper was the first player to be dismissed and he was quickly followed by Dugdale.

Artell told BBC Radio Stoke: "I don't know why I went for the ball in the first place and, between me and Duggie, we sold the lads down the river."

Artell will serve a one-match ban while Dugdale, who was an ever-present this season, is banned for three games.

No excuses for two dismissals - Artell

With the loss of two defenders, Alex manager Steve Davis has taken former West Ham left-back Jordan Brown on trial.

The 20-year-old was released by the Hammers without making a first-team appearance.

Davis has been looking to strengthen his squad in the left-back area for some time and is pleased to have the opportunity to assess Brown.

"Jordan has been released by West Ham and has come up here so we can look at him," Davis said.

"We will assess him and, if he is good enough, then we would look to do something on a short-term basis.

"He is unattached so there is no fee involved and it doesn't have to be concluded on Tuesday."
