Linfield 5-1 Carrick Rangers

Linfield trounced Carrick in the Irish Cup sixth round at Windsor Park.

Peter Thompson swivelled on his left foot and shot into the bottom corner of the net in the 21st minute.

Three minutes later Mark McAllister's low shot was spilled by Paul Murphy and Philip Lowry converted the loose ball.

McAllister rolled the ball into the path of Lowry who scored after 60, Thompson set the ball up for McAllister to score on 61, Daryl Fordyce netted on 77 and Shane Dolan late on for Carrick.

With the score at 2-0, Michael Carvill had a first-half chance for the Blues but his 25-yard shot was tipped over the bar by Murphy.

McAllister's 61st-minute goal was a fine finish, the former Dungannon forward hitting the ball home first-time after Thompson chested the ball down to him.

Substitute Fordyce scored with a free-kick into the bottom cormer of the net from the edge of the area on the 77th minute.

Dolan's late strike was scant consolation for Carrick.
