Plymouth 0-1 Gillingham

Joe Martin scored a glorious winner and was sent off as Gillingham beat relegation-threatened Plymouth.

Jo Kuffour struck a post for the Gills with a measured effort, while Alex MacDonald rattled the bar for the rock-bottom Pilgrims.

Martin, who had earlier picked up a yellow card, fired in the match-winning goal from 35 yards.

He collected his second booking before half-time for a foul on Paul Bignot, but the visitors held firm to win.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Plymouth Argyle manager Carl Fletcher told BBC Radio Devon:

"All credit to Gillingham, after they went down to 10 men, they dug in, got behind the ball and defended well.

Lucky breaks will come for us - Fletcher

"Their goal was outrageous really, a fantastic strike from 30 yards.

"It just didn't fall for us today."

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent:

We showed character - Hessenthaler

"We had to make five changes which had been forced upon us, and Jo Kuffour wasn't fully fit.

"Going down to 10 men shows the character of the players we've got at this club and I was proud of them.

"The win over Torquay was a top performance but today's was above that, it was an incredible siege mentality.

"The kids were outstanding."
