Sheffield Wed 2-0 Wycombe

Goals from Michail Antonio and Nile Ranger helped Sheffield Wednesday easily beat Wycombe to win automatic promotion back to the Championship.

Antonio put the Owls ahead when he linked up with Ranger and placed the ball past goalkeeper Nikki Bull.

Ranger, who had an earlier effort ruled out for offside, headed in a second from four yards when he steered in a flighted free-kick from Chris Lines.

Already-relegated Wycombe created few opportunities as the Owls celebrated.

Wednesday dropped down from the Championship in 2010 but have returned there after only two seasons in League One.

Three successive league defeats in February left the Owls' promotion hopes in the balance and soon saw manager Gary Megson leave the club.

But they have remained unbeaten since Dave Jones took over at the beginning of March and a run of 10 wins and two draws in their last 12 games took them to second spot in the table.

Jubilant scenes at Hillsborough

In front of a crowd of 38,082, Wednesday dominated throughout and had chances before Antonio's opener as Mark Beevers headed over, Jose Semedo shot wide and Miguel Angel Llera had an effort blocked on the goal-line.

Bull also later saved three efforts from Llera as the hosts piled on relentless pressure.

Wednesday, who beat Sheffield United 1-0 in Megson's last game in charge at the end of February, began the final day with a one-point advantage over the Blades but never looked like slipping up against Wycombe.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones told BBC Radio Sheffield:

Owls promotion hard earned - Jones

"It was hard earned. We were a bit nervous, but the goal settled us and I told them it's their time if they want it badly enough and they did.

"It was about getting the result, I heard last week the emotions on the bus back were unbelievable.

"I think we knew last week and I think Sheffield United knew that the opportunity had basically turned for us as long as we did it right."
