Eriksson backs Hodgson appointment

Former boss Sven-Goran Eriksson says he expected Harry Redknapp to be offered the England manager's role but backs the "experienced" Roy Hodgson to do a "very good job".

The Swede talks of his closeness with Hodgson and rejects the suggestion that the new boss lacks the charisma to succeed in the role.

Eriksson led England to quarter-final defeats at two World Cups and one European Championship.
