Roy Hodgson: Wayne Rooney was fit enough for England in Euros
England manager Roy Hodgson insists a lack of fitness was not behind Wayne Rooney's poor display in the Euro 2012 quarter-final defeat to Italy in Kiev.
Italy won 4-2 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes in which Rooney put in a below par performance.
Rooney, 26, missed the first two Euro 2012 group games against France and Sweden through suspension.
"We've monitored it in training and haven't noticed any problems with Wayne's fitness levels," Hodgson said.
