Gabon stun Cameroon to qualify for CHAN finals
Gabon have booked their place at next year's African Nations Championship (CHAN) after beating Cameroon on penalties in their first-round qualifier.
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg in Yaounde, Gabon levelled the tie on aggregate when they took the lead in Libreville through midfielder Samson Mbingui .
Cameroon were was missing players from Coton Sport, one the country's leading clubs, who, were involved in a delayed Champions League tie and could not release the players for national duty.
And with the scores level at the end of full-time, the Panthers took full advantage to complete their comeback by winning the penalty shoot-out.
Victory clinched their place at the finals of the tournament for locally-based players, which will take place in South Africa.
Cameroon, however, have another chance to qualify as they will now face the Democratic Republic of Congo in the play-offs, with the winner making it to the finals.
Burkina Faso, Burundi, Congo Brazzaville, Ethiopia, Ghana, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria and Uganda have qualified and South Africa are automatic participants as hosts.
