Aldershot Town 3-3 Luton Town

Shaun Whalley

Shaun Whalley's second-half penalty secured high-flying Luton Town a point at lowly Aldershot Town.

The visitors took the lead when Andre Gray cut inside from the right and curled a shot past Nick Pope, before Jake Goodman levelled from close range.

Andy Parry pounced at the back post to put Luton ahead again, but Jordan Roberts made it 2-2 as he reacted first to a loose ball in the box.

Mark Molesley's solo goal put the hosts ahead before Whalley's spot kick.

Craig Stanley felled Jonathan Smith in the box and Whalley sent Pope the wrong way to bring the Hatters level with ten minutes left.

After Gray's spectacular fourth-minute opener, Craig Stanley and Brett Williams went close for Aldershot who remain in the Conference Premier relegation zone having been deducted ten points for going into administration at the start of the season.

The home side's possession was rewarded when Goodman netted against his former club.

Parry and Roberts scored within eight minutes of each other and, with half-time looming, Molesley picked the ball up in midfield to dance past the Luton defence and put the hosts ahead for the first time.

Whalley's penalty was the only goal of the second half, but Jaydon Gibbs came close to winning it for Aldershot.

Andy Scott: Aldershot Town boss after Luton draw

"Tonight certainly wasn't a bad performance and a fantastic effort, especially after going 1-0 down so early in the game as we did on Saturday. The response was magnificent.

"We had a side put together that never had played before. A group of players who had never played as a back four and didn't even train together yesterday because three or four of them were injured.

"We were dynamic going forward, used the ball well and were solid defensively. And it might sound mad as we conceded three goals but Luton are a powerful side."

Luton manager John Still told BBC Three Counties Radio:

Post-match: Luton boss Still

"We're scoring goals for fun now.

"We were poor defensively tonight, not as a unit but individually.

"Sometimes people don't do as well as you'd like individually.

"We've scored three goals away from home, and that should win us the game."
