Wrexham 2-1 Aldershot Town

Wrexham's Jay Harris

Wrexham recorded their first win of 2014 in the Conference Premier thanks to a spectacular late goal from Jay Harris against Aldershot.

Joe Clarke had given Wrexham a 16th-minute lead, heading a corner into the roof of the Aldershot net.

Five minutes later Shots striker Brett Williams beat the offside trap to slot home his 16th goal of the season.

The game looked to be heading for a draw before Harris struck a 30-yard shot into the top corner.

Wrexham player-manager Andy Morrell told BBC Radio Wales:

"I thought it looked like it was going to be a draw and it took a little bit of quality from Jay (Harris) to be the difference.

"He was brilliant today. He's got that bit of quality for us which can help us massively.

"I'm made up for the lads because they left every ounce of energy they had out on the pitch."

Aldershot Town boss Andy Scott told BBC Surrey:

Andy Scott: Aldershot manager after Wrexham defeat

"It was one of those games that you throw your hands up and say 'the better team lost'. We were totally dominant and to come to Wrexham and do it is a fantastic performance."

"We've been beaten by a shot from 25 yards and has gone in the top corner and that's the way it goes. Sometimes you have to throw your hands up and say, 'we were very unlucky'."

"I think if Wrexham had got a point today, they would have known they would have been happy with that, but to get three, it's like they've come on their horses and in masks and ridden away with the three points."
