FC Halifax Town 2-0 Tamworth

FC Halifax kept alive their Conference Premier play-off hopes by seeing off relegation-threatened Tamworth.

Goals in each half from Matty Pearson and Lois Maynard kept the Shaymen on course for the chance of pulling off a second successive promotion.

Pearson had already squandered two opportunities when he rifled into the top corner on 14 minutes.

Halifax doubled their lead when Maynard arrowed a glorious drive into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.

While Halifax claimed only their second victory in nine games to move within three points of the play-off zone, Tamworth, despite bringing in new surprise loan signing Matthew Barnes-Homer for his debut, are now without a win in eight matches.

Barnes-Homer's arrival at The Lamb comes less than two months after the much-travelled non-league striker signed for Cambridge United on a free transfer from Forest Green.

Tamworth have also allowed experienced defender Wayne Thomas to join Conference North side Worcester City, on a short-term deal until the end of the season. He made his City debut in their 2-1 home win over Stalybridge Celtic.
