Walsall 1-1 Crewe Alexandra
An injury-time own goal denied Crewe a crucial victory in their battle against relegation but the point did little to enhance Walsall's play-off hopes.
Crewe took the lead when Matt Tootle crossed low into the goalmouth and Chucks Aneke coolly slotted home.
The Saddlers were handed an equaliser in injury-time when Mark Ellis turned the ball past his own goalkeeper.
The home side almost grabbed a winner when a Milan Lalkovic pile-driver was turned onto the bar by Ben Garratt.
Walsall manager Dean Smith told BBC WM:
"We deserved at least a point, we kept good possession of the ball but we never penetrated anywhere near the level we need to.
"If we want to get where we want to be, we need to win football games and to do that we need to score goals, and we're not doing that enough at the moment.
"We're one point closer [to the play-offs] now because the teams above us got beat. We know if we want to be there, we need to start winning games quickly."
Crewe manager Steve Davis told BBC Radio Stoke:
"We should have won the game. It was a night where the lads have given everything.
"The back four and keeper were terrific tonight and they deserved a clean sheet.
"We want the season to be better and we've done everything we can tonight to try and get those three points."
