Lincoln City 1-0 Cambridge United

Ben Tomlinson

Cambridge United suffered back-to-back defeats after Ben Tomlinson's penalty secured all three points for Lincoln.

Lincoln pressed from the off, Harrison Dunk's goalline clearance preventing Tomlinson from opening the scoring.

But the 24-year-old striker was then awarded a penalty after his shot struck the arm of Tom Bonner, and he slotted home for his 17th of the season.

The visitors' disappointing afternoon was compounded when Ryan Donaldson was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Post-match: Lincoln manager Simpson

"I thought we were terrific today, I don't think Nick (Townsend) had a shot to save and we should have had a few more I think with the football that we played.

"I said to the players that I wanted to win these last few games and we've set about it. We won last week, won this week and now it's Wrexham on Monday and then finish with Barnet and I want to get as many points as we can.

"We want to finish well. We had a bad couple of months but apart from that we haven't done too badly. I've kept saying that on our day we're a match for anybody and on today's showing we are."
