Inverness CT 2-0 Kilmarnock

Inverness Caledonian Thistle maintained their lead at the top of the Premiership table with a win at home to Kilmarnock.

In a game of few chances, Aaron Doran rolled the ball over the goal-line with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

Greg Tansey struck the post with a 25-yard strike that rebounded back off keeper Craig Sampson and into the net.

Killie rarely threatened and John Hughes' men continued their unbeaten run to the start of the season.

Caley Thistle hold a one-point advantage over Hamilton Academical, while Allan Johnston's Kilmarnock slip to fifth with seven points from five matches.

Interview - Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager John Hughes

The first half was eminently forgettable with plenty of effort from both sides, but little in terms of chances created and shots on goal.

Other than a speculative Doran attempt for the home side which flew over the bar and a Michael Ngoo header from the only corner of the half for Killie, which was well wide, the opening half provided few thrills.

Graeme Shinnie tested Samson straight into the restart with a powerful drive which the Killie keeper beat away at his left side.

Billy McKay then curled a shot across goal but it went wide as the home side continued to press.

Caley Thistle's Ryan Christie was next to be foiled when his header was pushed away at the near post by an energetic Samson leap.

Doran though grabbed the opener, racing on to a McKay pass to nick the ball under the out rushing Samson for his second goal of the season.

Five minutes later, Tansey's effort found its way into the net via the post and Samson to wrap up a deserved win for the Highlanders, who have yet to concede a goal in this campaign.
