Bristol City 3-0 Doncaster Rovers

Aaron Wilbraham
Aaron Wilbraham has now scored five times for Bristol City after joining from Crystal Palace

A shocking error from defender Cedric Evina compounded Doncaster's misery - and helped send Bristol City top of League One.

The Rovers defender dwelled on the ball on his own goal-line before the Robins' Mark Little nipped in.

Paul Dickov's side were already one down thanks to Aaron Wilbraham's close-range opener.

Harry Forrester was later sent off for a second yellow before Kieran Agard made it 3-0 with a deflected shot.

City, unbeaten in the league, were looking for their third win in a row while Doncaster were looking to put their 2-0 home defeat by Oldham Athletic behind them.

The visitors claimed an early penalty when Forrester went down in the area but after consulting with his linesman referee Michael Bull booked the forward for diving.

After 13 minutes the home side struck first. Aden Flint's header wreaked havoc on the edge of Rovers' six-yard box and, after Agard was denied, Wilbraham managed to force the ball home.

Frenchman Evina's moment of madness came on the half-hour mark before Forrester, who was already on a yellow, kicked the ball away when City were awarded a 51st-minute free-kick and an inevitable red followed.

Agard added a third for Steve Cotterill's men in the 82nd minute after being set up by the impressive Joe Bryan.

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill told BBC Radio Bristol:

Cotterill on Bristol City v Doncaster

"I'm delighted with the score line and that take us to the top of the table, which is where we want to be so we are really pleased with that.

"The three in the middle of the park did a lot of what I would call thankless tasks. Well done to them.

"Without those three we wouldn't have kept a clean sheet and that was important.

"The goals were deserved. They were open and we attacked it."
