Luton Town 1-0 Cheltenham Town

Mark Cullen's early goal gave Luton their first home victory since returning to the Football League, at the expense of high-flying Cheltenham.

Scott Griffiths' cross was glanced home by Cullen before Luke Guttridge almost doubled the lead from distance.

The Hatters' Jim Stevenson had a goal ruled out for offside early in the second half, but the hosts were then indebted to veteran keeper Mark Tyler.

He made fine stops from John Marquis, Jason Taylor and Koby Arthur late on.

Cheltenham drop to fifth in League Two and outside of the automatic promotion places, while Luton move up to 18th.

Luton Town boss John Still told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"We played really well first half and had to really dig in in the second half. We had to do that last year but it's good to see those ingredients are still with us."

Luton boss Still on Cheltenham win

On Mark Cullen: "His form hasn't been great. His goal scoring hasn't been great. When you see him in training he's electric.

"I always believe form's temporary. We found that last year. Form's temporary. Mark's a quality player and took his goal really well and I'm really pleased for him."

On Jim Stevenson: "He's come back this year. He's going to be a player. His running power, his strength. He scored three goals in a development game.

"He's developing into a very good player. When he came on I thought his running power was a very big factor in our win, I really did."

Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

Yates on Luton v Cheltenham

"They paid a massive compliment to us by changing their shape, but we're going to have to deal with that.

"I think if we'd have got one we'd have got a couple, but it just wasn't to be.

"I won't fault the lads as long as I get effort like that, I just think that for the first 15-20 minutes we were a little bit misguided.

"We've had seven games and 14 points - two points a game - that's tremendous from the whole group."
