Burton Albion 1-0 Cheltenham Town

Burton boss Gary Rowett
Rowett's side had lost their last two league games

Burton returned to winning ways with a first victory in three League Two games taking them to the top of the table.

Gary Rowett's side withstood second-half pressure to protect the lead given them by Stuart Beavon to leave Cheltenham winless in five games.

Beavon struck the winner after 34 minutes when he fired low into the net from the edge of the box after being set up by John Mousinho.

Joe Hanks was denied by Jon McLaughlin as Town pressed for a late leveller.

Burton assistant Kevin Summerfield told BBC Radio Derby:

"The first thing we wanted was a clean sheet. A win and a clean sheet was absolutely perfect for us today and thoroughly deserved.

"We were very good in first half. We passed the ball about, got in some great situations and could have gone in a couple of goals ahead.

"The second half was completely different - we were having to defend for long, long periods of the game.

"The goalie keeps kicking the ball into our box and it was very difficult to get out. The guys today stood up really well and all credit to the back four; they were terrific."

Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"I felt in the first half we didn't have a pass in us, we didn't do the basics right, it just looked like two average teams out of a little bit of form.

"In the second half I thought we were really good but we had to be - we had to go and press and change our system a little bit - and we've got to work out ways we do that from the start.

"(The strikers) are more than capable, I thought the three of them were a handful in the second half, but unfortunately it's not quite happening in front of goal for us.

"We're going to need a goal to go in off someone's backside next week and then hopefully we can get up and running."
