Crewe Alexandra 0-3 Notts County

Jake Cassidy scores for Notts County against Crewe
Cassidy's only other league goal for Notts County came on the opening day of the season

Jake Cassidy scored twice to earn Notts County their first win in six League One games and condemn bottom side Crewe Alexandra to a third straight defeat.

Cassidy tested home keeper Ben Garratt with a low shot before putting Notts ahead before the break, stroking home from a neat Garry Thompson cut-back.

Loan defender Alan Tate's unfortunate own goal, deflecting in Shaun Harrad's shot from a corner, made it 2-0.

Cassidy added Notts' third, tapping in from a low Stephen McLaughlin cross.

Crewe's struggles
Crewe's loss against Notts County is their second successive 3-0 home defeat in League One.The Alex have the worst defensive record in England's top four divisions, having had 27 goals put past them this term.
Steve Davis's side have conceded 12 goals and scored just one in the last three matches.Their only league win this season came against Port Vale in a local derby earlier this month.

Marcus Haber, who was on loan at Notts County last season, came closest for Crewe with two headed efforts off target in the first half.

Crewe remain three points adrift at the bottom of the table with eight defeats and 27 goals conceded in 10 matches, while Notts claimed maximum points in League One for the first time since 23 August to move up to 10th.

Mood at Crewe is low - Dugdale

"It's not good, is it? The mood's probably as low as I've seen it. I can understand why the fans are frustrated.

"If we could put our finger in what the problem was, we'd put it right. But we've got to get ourselves out of it.

"But too many aren't performing at the minute. If you can't work hard, you've got no chance."

Notts County manager Shaun Derry told BBC Radio Nottingham:

Derry on Notts County's win at Crewe

"It was perhaps the most comfortable night we have had all season, but we still expected it to be a tough night.

"That's testament to the way the lads went out there and approached the game.

"They made it a night that we could enjoy. Congratulations to the boys."
