Charlton Athletic 1-1 Birmingham City

David Davis
Davis left Wolves to join Birmingham in the summer

Birmingham came from behind to snatch a point against unbeaten Charlton.

Igor Vetokele opened the scoring for the Addicks with a bullet header after only 11 minutes.

Young Blues forward Koby Arthur poked the ball into the net before the break only for Clayton Donaldson to be ruled offside in the build-up.

But Lee Clark's Birmingham found a deserved equaliser when David Davis turned and struck into the bottom corner for his first goal for the club.

It means Charlton have now drawn seven of their 11 league fixtures this season and remain sixth in the table, while the Blues are 20th.

Peeters on Charlton v Birmingham

It was the hosts who started brightly and Vetokele, after missing his first curling effort, made no mistake with his header from Frederic Bulot's cross.

Paul Caddis's run led to Arthur stabbing home for the Blues, but Donaldson was flagged, even though he appeared to not interfere with play.

The second half began with Vetokele supplying Lawrie Wilson at the back post only for the Charlton midfielder to blaze over.

At the other end, Addicks goalkeeper Stephen Henderson kept out Paul Robinson's header from a free-kick, but was unable to stop Davis's low drive for 1-1.

Birmingham pushed for all three points and substitute Wes Thomas could have won it for the visitors late on had he not slipped while taking his shot.

Charlton manager Bob Peeters: "We made a good start - and then that was it. We started well for 15 minutes and created a few chances but - why I don't know - we started giving the game away.

"At half-time we adjusted it and we came out of the dressing room and got the first chance but again the quality was not enough."

Birmingham manager Lee Clark: "After the first goal there was only one team in it and we had a legitimate goal taken off. I've seen the footage - it's not offside. I've spoken to the ref but I can't take the actual footage in."
