Aldershot Town 2-2 Bristol Rovers

Jordan Roberts
Former Arsenal youth-team midfielder Roberts had not scored since the opening game of the season

Jordan Roberts earned a draw for Aldershot against Bristol Rovers but was then sent off in injury time.

Brett Williams gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot, after Tom Parkes had handled, but Andy Monkhouse equalised to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Rovers earned themselves a penalty after Glenn Wilson's handball and Matty Taylor duly converted.

But the Shots rescued a point when Roberts' free-kick flew into the top corner past keeper Steve Mildenhall.

The hosts pushed for a late winner but Williams' shot was saved by Mildenhall and Roberts hit the bar with the follow-up.

And to add to the late drama, the Aldershot forward was sent off after picking up his second yellow card of the game.

Bristol Rovers earned a free-kick in the fifth minute of injury time but Lee Brown's attempt was saved by keeper Phil Smith.

The result means the Shots remain 15th in the table, while Darrell Clarke's Pirates stay in fourth and extend their unbeaten run to nine games.

Aldershot Town boss Andy Scott told BBC Surrey:

Scott on Aldershot v Bristol Rovers

"When you go 2-1 down, you always want to get back into the game. The way we responded, we ended up having the better of it at the end.

"I thought the game was a good advert for the league, with a lot of committed players trying to win the game.

"Obviously we would have liked the three points, we kept going for it and had some good opportunities to do that, but we gave as good as we could against a side who are nine games unbeaten.

"The nagging feeling is that we have to do that every week."

Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke told BBC Radio Bristol:

Clarke on Shots v Bristol Rovers

"It was well documented that when Bristol Rovers used to go behind, we never got anything from the game.

"Now I've got a squad of players who have got character and we keep going.

"It seemed to be an entertaining game for the punters.

"When you go 2-1 up you always want to see the game out but, to be fair to the lad, he scored a cracking free-kick."
