Ipswich Town captain Luke Chambers has signed a new deal until 2017, with the option of a further 12 months.

The 29-year-old has played in his preferred centre-half position this term, instead of at right-back.

"I don't want to go anywhere. This is my most enjoyable spell as a professional," Chambers told BBC Radio Suffolk on Thursday.

"My family has settled here, I love the boys, the gaffer has been brilliant and the fans have been fantastic."

Chambers has had to fill in at right-back for much of his two-and-a-half years at Ipswich, but the signing of Jonathan Parr in the summer has allowed him to move inside.

The former Nottingham Forest player has helped Ipswich make an impressive start to the season with the team lying sixth in the Championship table, two points off leaders Norwich.

Meanwhile, young Town defender Omar Sowunmi has joined Conference side Braintree on a month's loan.
