Gillingham 1-1 Crawley Town

Leon Legge, Gillingham
Gillingham signed defender Leon Legge on a permanent deal from Brentford in January 2013

Leon Legge's first goal since January earned Gillingham only their seventh point in 10 games after a 1-1 home draw with Crawley.

Gwion Edwards put the visitors ahead and Matt Harrold almost doubled the advantage but his shot hit the post.

Legge equalised shortly before half-time with a powerful header from Jake Hessenthaler's corner.

Gillingham almost won it when substitute Bradley Dack hit the crossbar from 20 yards on the hour.

Gillingham manager Peter Taylor told BBC Radio Kent:

"Both teams had some good chances. We didn't start very well but I thought we got better. Not maybe enough to win the match.

"I didn't think we tried to get a grip of the game, we were a bit too easy to play. But I thought we got better."

"There's been many a time when we haven't created too much, but I think we created a few chanced where we could have got more than one goal."

Crawley Town manager John Gregory told BBC Surrey:

"Joe Walsh was back to his very best today and I thought he and Dean Leacock, particularly in the second half when they had a lot more work to do, defended very well.

"We found ourselves at the end of the game hanging on, so it was a really strong defensive performance from everybody and everyone worked extremely hard.

"Away from home that's certainly the best we've played. I think the shape of the team complimented each other, but when they made changes it forced us to be more direct."
