Institute and Crusaders share spoils with a 1-1 draw at Drumahoe

Institute midfielder Aaron Walsh missed a last-gasp penalty as Crusaders escaped with a draw at Drumahoe.

Walsh was the key figure in this Premiership clash, putting the hosts ahead from a penalty on 19 minutes after a foul on Declan McKeever.

But he let Crusaders back in the game after 56 minutes, heading into his own goal from Craig McClean's free-kick.

Crues defender BJ Burns handled in the final seconds but Walsh blazed over with the last kick of the game.

Institute's opener came against the run of play with Colin Coates upending McKeever before Walsh converted from 12 yards.

Burns hit the bar from a free-kick as the Crues piled on the pressure and they finally levelled courtesy of Walsh.

Crues winger Paul Heatley was off-target from two good openings before the late drama, as Walsh wasted the chance to give Institute a fifth win of the campaign.

"We're obviously disappointed he missed it but Aaron has been a talisman and leader for us," said Stute boss Paul Kee.

"He'll learn from it and come back a stronger player.

"The players have been excellent - we were fitter, strong and able to cope with the physical element that Crusaders pose."

Institute stay 10th but Crusaders have slipped a place to fourth and are now three points off the pace.
