Warrenpoint Town earn battling point at Coleraine

Warrenpoint Town continued their pre-Christmas revival as they earned a battling Premiership point against Coleraine at the Showgrounds.

In-form Town striker Ciaran O'Connor headed against the Coleraine woodwork in the fifth minute.

O'Connor then had a penalty claim turned down on 13 after he tangled with keeper Michael Doherty.

Ian Parkhill wasted Coleraine's best chance on 74 as he fired straight at Warrenpoint keeper Johnny Parr.

However, Warrenpoint then had an opportunity to snatch the points in the closing minutes when Johnny Breen fired wide after a mistake by Lyndon Kane.

After the two early incidents involving O'Connor, Stephen Hughes went close for Warrenpoint on 20 minutes before Neil McCafferty curled a free-kick just wide at the other end before the break.

But while Warrenpoint should be pleased with another commendable display after last weekend's surprise win over title contenders Portadown, this was not a game that will live long in the memory.

The draw moves the bottom club to within two points of 11th-placed Dungannon Swifts while Colerain stay in sixth spot, three points clear of Glenavon.
