Carlisle United 1-2 Shrewsbury Town

James Collins
James Collins has scored 15 goals for Shrewsbury this season

James Collins struck a dramatic winner as Shrewsbury Town scored twice in added time to come from behind to beat Carlisle and move top of League Two.

The hosts took the lead after the break when Patrick Brough teed up Charlie Wyke to coolly volley the ball home.

Shrewsbury finally equalised in the 92nd minute when Mickey Demetriou headed home Liam Lawrence's corner.

And, just 53 seconds later, Town took all three points when Collins followed up Jean Louis Akpa Akpro's shot.

After going top for the first time on Boxing Day, Micky Mellon's men have since been dislodged twice in the battle for the League Two title. But they are leaders again, as a result of Burton Albion being held 0-0 at home by AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe Wanderers slipping up at home to Plymouth Argyle.

Carlisle, who drop a place to 19th, remain four points clear of trouble.

Shrewsbury manager Micky Mellon told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"Dramatic is an understatement. I was stunned because, with a couple of minutes to go, you're thinking: 'what are you going to say afterwards?'.

"We gave away a really poor goal but, to be fair, our players keep plugging away and games last for 94 or 95 minutes.

"They never gave up, and in the end they've gone and got that winner - which is tough on Carlisle, I've got to say. But that's the way football is, it goes right to the end. And to go back on top of the table - it gets better and better."
