Roma coach Rudi Garcia stunned by 'negative' performance

Former Arsenal winger Gervinho missed Roma's best chance of the game

Roma boss Rudi Garcia was left concerned by the "negative" performance of his side after they missed the chance to narrow the gap on Serie A leaders Juventus by drawing at Chievo.

Gervinho spurned Roma's best chance as the away side enjoyed a majority of possession but were wasteful in attack.

"Today we were terrible, unrecognisable," Garcia said.

"Tomorrow we have to say what needs to be said to each other, but I expect some kind of reaction."

Chievo, 16th in the table, moved six points clear of the relegation zone while Roma stay second - eight points behind Juve.

"Sometimes you suffer defeats that leave you disappointed, but this draw was worrying. The extent to which we were negative stunned me."

Chievo's players celebrated a vital point at the final whistle, but the result was soured by an horrific injury to defender Federico Mattiello, who suffered a broken leg after a challenge with Roma's Radja Nainggolan.

Elsewhere, bottom club Parma played their first game since having to postpone two matches for financial reasons, holding 17th-placed Atalanta to a goalless draw.

Mauro Icardi scored an 87th-minute penalty as Inter Milan snatched a draw away to third-placed Napoli, Cesena's game at home to Palermo was goalless, Empoli and Genoa drew 1-1 while Udinese came from behind to beat Torino 3-2 at Stadio Friuli.

On Monday evening, Juventus can increase their lead at the summit when they host Sassuolo, while fourth-placed Lazio host fifth-placed Fiorentina.
