Morecambe 1-4 Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury moved up to second in League Two to keep pressure on leaders Burton with a resounding win over Morecambe.

Jack Redshaw's 12-yard strike put the hosts ahead, before Connor Goldson's scrambled effort and James Collins' volley gave Shrewsbury the lead.

Morecambe were reduced to 10 men just after the break when keeper Andreas Arestidou felled Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro.

Jermaine Grandison finished a jinking run to give the visitors their third before Tyrone Barnett fired a fourth.

Shrewsbury gave a league debut to 20-year-old Rhys Sharpe, their loan signing from Championship club Derby County, on the left side.

Striker Andy Mangan came on late in the game for his first appearance in two months following knee surgery.

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"We've never got too carried away after a defeat and we never get too high after a victory. We just keep it level and keep trying to put in performances like that.

"When we went behind it's always important to hit back as quickly as possible. A weaker team than ours with less character might have gone under after what some people have been saying.

"The players we brought in - Liam Lawrence, young Rhys Sharpe and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro - gave us a bit more energy.

"And it was huge to see Andy Mangan back because there's another huge name we've been missing. We haven't whinged and moaned but we've missed some really big characters."
