Bristol Rovers 3-1 Aldershot Town

Jermaine Easter
Jermaine Easter's goal against Aldershot was his first for Bristol Rovers since joining the Conference side in January

Bristol Rovers returned to the top of the Conference with a deserved victory at home to Aldershot.

Jermaine Easter smashed in his first goal for the hosts to open the scoring, but Brett Williams slotted home for Aldershot to equalise before half-time.

After the break, Rovers scored twice in quick succession to win the game.

First Andy Monkhouse put them back in front from close-range and then Matt Taylor volleyed in to move them above rivals Barnet, who play on Saturday.

The results leaves Aldershot 18th in the table, eight points above the drop zone, but their relegation rivals all have at least two games in hand.

Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke told BBC Radio Bristol:

"The games are all massive but at this time of the season, I'm delighted to get the three points.

"I thought we were in control for a lot of the game but their goal knocked the stuffing out of us a bit.

"The changing room was a bit subdued at half-time but we picked them up and went again.

"In the second half we played some good football and scored some good goals."

Aldershot Town caretaker manager Chris Barker told BBC Surrey:

"The first 20 minutes they started really well and got an early goal, but we managed to get one back and I think we grew and we didn't want half-time to come.

Chris Barker: Aldershot caretaker on Bristol Rovers loss

"We were creating pressure at the time, but credit to Bristol Rovers they scored two goals in three minutes which killed the game.

"At times we looked a bit nervous on the ball and eventually we did calm down and the goal we scored helped that.

"I need to try and get people back on the training field, some of them have not trained for a week to 10 days, and I think it's showing at the minute. Luckily for us we haven't got a game for another two weeks."
