Milton Keynes Dons 4-1 Notts County

Carl Baker
Carl Baker is congratulated after putting MK Dons in front against Notts County

MK Dons scored four second-half goals to hammer Notts County and keep alive the chance of automatic promotion.

Carl Baker opened the scoring when he skipped past defenders to smash in from close range before Lewis Baker lobbed goalkeeper Roy Carroll for 2-0.

Elliott Whitehouse poked in to halve the visitors' deficit but Will Grigg scored two to end hopes of a comeback.

First he turned in Dean Bowditch's cross for 3-1 before scoring from close range to seal a second straight win.

The result leaves MK Dons four points from second-placed Preston, while Notts County hover precariously above the relegation places on goal difference.

MK Dons Manager Karl Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"I thought the players and the fans today were magnificent.

"I'm really really happy, I'm excited by what this group can do.

"At 2-0 we took our foot off the pedal and we tried to get too flash with our passing. It's not why we play the way we play, we do it to create opportunities.

"The players deserve a lot of credit for today, they've gone and got seven points from three games."

Notts County manager Shaun Derry told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"The game plan went to script for the first half. We look as if we were going to come out in the second half with a vibrancy to get something out of the game.

"Again, individual mistakes have cost us dearly. I can't make excuses because they have been happening for too long now.

"Ultimately, at the end of the day, you get judged and I have to judge them honestly and say that's not good enough.

"Collectively as a team performance there were some positives. We had four or five good chances in the game against a very, very good team."
