Wrexham manager Kevin Wilkin is hopeful centre back Manny Smith will be the next player to commit to the club.

Former Notts County and Walsall defender Smith, 26, joined Wrexham in August 2014 following a trial period with the Dragons.

Wilkin says Wrexham are in negotiations with Smith, but admits they face competition from several other clubs

"He's the sort of guy that you can look to build a side around and we are speaking to Manny most days," he said.

"We're trying to pull together a deal and keep all parties happy, but I'm hopeful and optimistic that in the coming days we will get that bottomed out.

"He's arguably been our most consistent performer this season

"That's great for us, but what it does do is it alerts everybody else and attracts attention from other places."

Wrexham's top-scorer Louis Moult has already agreed a new 12-month contract extension with the Conference side.

Moult joined the Dragons on a one-year deal from Nuneaton Town in June 2014.
