Scunthorpe United 2-0 Peterborough United

Paddy Madden
Madden's goal takes his tally to 16 for the season

Scunthorpe earned a first win in 10 games to ease their relegation concerns and dent Peterborough's play-off hopes.

Top scorer Paddy Madden set the Iron on their way, scoring from close range when the ball fell kindly in the box.

The hosts deservedly made it 2-0 after the break when Theo Robinson struck.

An injury to referee Carl Berry, who had to be replaced by fourth official Ian Dudley, did not bring a change of luck for Posh, who only threatened through two Michael Bostwick shots.

Peterborough are four points off the play-off spots while Scunthorpe are now three points clear of the drop zone.

Scunthorpe United manager Mark Robins talking to BBC Radio Humberside:

Robins on Scunthorpe v Peterborough

"It's a good win, a good performance and a clean sheet so I'm delighted.

"I thought we were decent. We went forward pretty well and we caused them problems. I thought the way Gary McSheffrey played today, everything good we did went through him in the first-half.

"I thought we got plenty of opportunities to get the ball in the box and we had plenty of opportunities to shoot. Some we spurned and some we turned down and then we got a scruffy goal of the type that you are hoping to get at times because you can never score the perfect goal. It was a perfect goal in terms of getting our noses in front. "
