Mansfield Town 1-2 Portsmouth

Portsmouth took home all three points from Mansfield after the hosts were forced to play almost the whole game with just 10 men.

Ritchie Sutton was sent off in the first minute for fouling Jed Wallace - and Matt Tubbs scored from the spot.

Wallace then doubled Pompey's lead after the break when he let fly from range to beat Lenny Pidgeley's dive.

The Stags got back in it when Jack Thomas scored his first senior goal but Portsmouth held on to claim victory.

After struggling of late, winning just twice in 10 matches, Mansfield could finish the season as high as 18th should they win against Accrington in their final game next week.

Mansfield manager Adam Murray told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"The boys gave it everything they had, but it's for people to decide whether that was good enough.

"You can't go down to 10 men after 45 seconds and expect to give yourself the best chance of winning a football match.

"If you tried to explain our season to someone, then that game summed it up. It's frustrating and it adds to the frustration of the season."

Portsmouth caretaker boss Gary Waddock told BBC Radio Solent:

Portsmouth caretaker boss Gary Waddock after 2-1 win at Mansfield.

"The amount of goals Jed Wallace has scored this season from the position that he plays in is a fantastic return. He is a talented young player. It's been a pleasure working with him on the training ground and seeing goals flying in like that one."

"I am delighted it's away from home. It's now something for the fans to go home with during a course of difficult fixtures and results this season.

"We have to be ruthless and when those chances come up - take them. Kill the game off and manage the game better and it would have been a lot comfortable going towards the end of the final whistle."
