Chester 5-3 Nuneaton Town

Liam Daish
Liam Daish took charge of Nuneaton in September 2014

Chester beat Nuneaton in an eight-goal thriller, in what proved Liam Daish's final Conference match as Boro manager.

Andy Brown and Gavin Cowan's header put Boro 2-0 up within half an hour before Ollie McBurnie nodded in for Chester.

Josh Rees restored the two-goal lead with a stunner into the top corner but midfielders Kingsley James and Sean McConville got Chester back level.

McConville fired City ahead before George Thomson sealed it, dribbling through to unleash a left-foot shot.

Chester's third straight victory ensured a top-half finish in 12th for Steve Burr's side, a year on from suffering relegation on the same pitch, only to be reprieved when Hereford were expelled from the Conference.

Daish's last game in charge of Nuneaton will be on Thursday, when his side play his former club Birmingham City in the final of the Birmingham Senior Cup.

Boro, promoted in 2012, finished bottom, having already been relegated from the Conference with two games left a fortnight ago.

Chester manager Steve Burr told BBC Radio Merseyside:

"It was a great way to finish the season. We've been battling for a top-half finish all season and now we've got to try to improve on that next year.

Burr on Chester v Nuneaton

"We're certainly all a lot happier than we were this time a year ago when it was all glum miserable faces.

"Nuneaton played very well. It's often hard to understand how a team that's been relegated can produce a performance like that.

"But we woke up and scored some excellent goals. I love to see goals going in. George Thomson's in particular was excellent."
