Guernsey FC physio Mike Thomas has passed away.

He was diagnosed with motor neurone disease last summer but remained involved with the island club until the end of this season.

Thomas accompanied the Guernsey team as they represented England in the Uefa Regions Cup in Croatia in 2010.

"Life can be very cruel at times and I cannot fully express how saddened the club are today," Guernsey FC chairman Steve Dewsnip told the club website.

"Mike was an incredible man and we will miss him hugely."

Thomas moved to Guernsey in 1991 and has been a popular figure across sport on the island for many years.

He was in the dugout at Footes Lane last week as Guernsey took on rivals Jersey in the Muratti football final.

Thomas' son, Daniel, is also a physio at Guernsey FC.

"Quite rightly there will be many tributes, however at this stage our thoughts are with Dawn, Matt, Dan and the rest of the Thomas family," added Dewsnip.
