IFA play down World Cup boycott talk

Irish FA chief executive Patrick Nelson says it would be better to attempt to change Fifa "from within" rather than considering a boycott of the 2018 World Cup.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke says England would back a boycott of the 2018 tournament as a protest against Sepp Blatter's re-election as president of football's world governing body. Scottish FA boss Stewart Gregan said that the option was being considered.

However, Nelson was more cautious about the notion of a World Cup boycott.

"I think it is a little bit early to be considering nuclear options like that," Nelson told BBC Radio Ulster.

"It is always better to try and fix something from within. Certainly we'll be talking to all our partners in Uefa about how we go forward from here."
