Hartlepool defender Matthew Bates has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.

The 28-year-old, who can also play in midfield, joined Pools from Bradford City last summer and was a regular until struck by injury in February.

However he returned for the final two games as Hartlepool successfully secured League Two survival.

Dan Jones signed a new deal earlier in the week while manager Ronnie Moore has already signed four players.

Strikers Rakish Bingham and Rhys Oates and defenders Carl Magnay and Harry Worley have all joined the club as Moore prepares for the new season.
