Sam Russell: Gateshead sign ex-Forest Green goalkeeper
Gateshead have signed goalkeeper Sam Russell on undisclosed terms following his departure from Forest Green Rovers.
Russell, 32, who has made 383 league appearances for eight clubs, left Rovers after three seasons following his move from Darlington.
The Tynesiders moved for Russell after deciding not to offer existing keeper Adam Bartlett a new contract.
"Good goalkeepers are very hard to find," said manager Malcolm Crosby.
"We are very pleased to have got him. Sam left Middlesbrough the year I joined, but I've seen him play quite a lot at Forest Green."
The Middlesbrough-born keeper was an FA Trophy winner with the Quakers in 2011.
