Gateshead midfielder John Oster is set to retire from football after turning down a new one-year deal.

The 36-year-old, capped 13 times by Wales, has been with the National League club for the past two seasons.

He said on Twitter: "Now it's in the domain id like to wish @GatesheadFC and the boys all the best next season! Time for something different now."

Oster made over 500 professional appearances during his career for clubs including Everton and Sunderland.
