Brazil left established stars such as Marta on the bench with qualification already assured

Brazil advanced to the last 16 as they topped Group E with a 1-0 win over Costa Rica that maintained their 100% record in the Women's World Cup so far.

Raquel Fernandes converted Brazil's dominance into victory with a cool finish from Andressa's pass with seven minutes left.

Brazil, hunting their first title, will play Australia in the last 16.

They are joined in the knock-out stages by South Korea who beat Spain 2-1 to secure a qualification spot.

Costa Rica ended up third in the group, but their total of two points from Group E was not enough to secure one of four second-round places for teams coming third.

It was a sad end to the Ticos' campaign after their battling display against Brazil was finally undone by Fernandes's careful side-foot shot past goalkeeper Dinnia Diaz.

South Korea made the knock-out stages of the tournament for the first time as they recovered from a goal down to beat Spain.

Captain Veronica Boquete's opener in the first half was cancelled out by Korean counterpart Cho So-hyun after the interval, before an error from Spain goalkeeper Ainhoa Tirapu proved decisive.

Tirapu allowed a looping cross from defender Kim Soo-yun to sail over her head and into the net in the 78th minute, ensuring it would be the Asian side who advance to a meeting with France.
