Matt Oakley has agreed a new one-year contract to remain at Exeter City.

The 37-year-old midfielder, who played for Southampton and Derby in the Premier League, joined the Grecians from Leicester City in 2012.

Oakley missed just one game for League Two Exeter in all competitions last season, captaining the side in the latter half of the campaign.

"He brings a lot of experience and knowledge," Exeter manager Paul Tisdale told the club's website.

"It's a long season and there will be a time when there is a dip in energy, but on the whole last season he was exceptional.

"Here's hoping that he can have another similar season again."
